At my house, we love making different chex mix muddy buddies for each of the holidays. There are always so many great holiday themed treats that take the chex mix from boring to awesome, like the ones we did for Valentines Day this year. I had my daughter help me pick out some spooky treats to add to this Halloween chex mix, and it is just the right amount of spooky and cute.

Part of the reason we like to make chex mix is because it easy enough to make that my girls can help me in the kitchen. They love helping me, but sometimes, it can be hard to have them help.  If you have a little one that loves to help, get them involved with this recipe!

All you need to get is:

  • White chocolate (I went with orange and white colored white chocolate)
  • Rice or corn chex
  • Powdered sugar
  • Candy corn
  • Candy corn M&Ms
  • Sprinkles (the ones that are the orange, white, and yellow worked perfectly for this mix. I found them at Michaels)
  • Candy eyeballs (also found these at Michaels)
  • Any other spooky mix-ins that you might like to add (Like the bones shaped sprinkles I found 🙂 )

Melt the chocolate according to package instructions. While it is melting, put your chex cereal into a gallon sized ziplock bag. Once the chocolate is melted, pour it in on top of the cereal and then seal the bag. I found the best way to coat the cereal was to kind of roll the cereal around inside of the bag, but be careful not to crush the cereal. Once it is coated, you’ll want to add the powdered sugar and sprinkles. With the sugar inside of the gallon bag, shake the bag to coat the cereal. You’ll notice that this doesn’t stick to the sides of the bag nearly as much.

I wanted two different colors of chocolate, so I split the cereal into two bags and did one with white, and the other with orange chocolate. Repeat all of the steps above for both bags.

Last, throw in your M&Ms and any other spooky mix-ins into the bag to finish coating, and then pour it all out onto a cookie pan. You’ll want to let the chocolate set before you eat it. If you are in a hurry, you can always stick it in the fridge to make it set faster. That’s all it takes! It is really so easy and fun, and my kids always love being able to shake the bags and make it with me.
