One of my favorite parts of Halloween is sharing the fun with others. I always love seeing the “You’ve Been BOO’d” signs all over the neighborhood and love coming up with fun new ways to do the “BOO-ing”. I’ve been dreaming about this idea for a while now and I am SO pleased with the way it turned out. I know that anyone would LOVE getting BOO’d like this, and the best part is that you can find all the spooky things you need to make your own BOO bundle over at Walmart.com.

It all started with the idea that I wanted something to come out of the box as it was opened. I was inspired by the new Ghostbusters® movie and knew that I had to use ghosts. It almost feels like you’re releasing the ghosts from the box as you’re opening it. (PS- the word on the street is that the Ghostbusters® DVD release date is 10/11 and will be available at Walmart. Or, if you want to make sure you get your copy, it is available for pre-order Blu-ray or DVD now. It would be a super fun addition to the box, just sayin.)

I grabbed a plain craft box that had a lid, and decided to paint it black. Once it was all black, I thought about doing stripes, but it didn’t look quite like I had hoped so I started wiping the stripes off with a baby wipe. When I did that, is created a cool grey-ish black-ish color and pattern that I really liked. I decided to keep it that way and did the other sides the same. It gives it a slate or stone kind of look that works perfectly for this. The lid I painted black because I liked the contrast.

Next, I worked on my ghosts. I cut out my ghosts and added a face with a sharpie marker. Then I got some white tissue paper and cut a big square out. The bottom of the tissue paper, I cut into little strips and then I glued the paper to the ghost.

Once those were connected, I used some jute string I had to attach the ghost to the box. Since I was using three ghosts, I used strings in various lengths so that the ghosts would be staggered, and then I glued it with hot glue to the bottom of the lid.

Now that my box was ready, I wanted to fill the box with treats so I grabbed candies from the Halloween candy aisle at Walmart. I went with the M&M’S®, SNICKERS®, TWIX® assorted bag, as well as the Skittles®, Starburst® assortment. I love the fun sized treats!

While I was shopping, I was in the Halloween aisle looking at the Halloween lights, and I found the coolest little green LED lights that are battery operated. They made me think of Slimer from the movie and thought it would add a ghoulish touch to the box if it were glowing green when it was opened. I love the way they look nestled underneath the black tissue paper. If you are giving the box to someone at night, it would totally be creepy cool with the lights shining out!

The final touch is the free printable I attached to the front. The green slime on the printable worked great with the green lights. I got this printable that also comes with instructions for how to “BOO it forward” from BOOItForward.com. I really like that they had a few options of cards and signs to choose from to make BOO-ing someone super simple. Plus, they have all kinds of other ideas for how to BOO someone and ideas of what to give as well. It’s all super clever and right up my alley! (I think you do need to input your birth date to be able to access the site, but that is all and you’ll get right in.)

boo-ghosts

I hope you’ll spread the Halloween spirit this year and make an effort to BOO it forward in your own neighborhood! It is all in good fun –PLUS– who wouldn’t love getting a fun treat and knowing that someone was thinking of them. 😉 All it takes is to: Make a BOO Bundle. Secretly Deliver it. And leave a note telling the recipient to BOO it Forward.
