If you are following me over on Instagram, I am sure you are well aware of our bunny situation. For those that have no clue what I am talking about, surprise! Our two “male” bunnies weren’t really two male bunnies, and now we have 5 baby bunnies. It was a shock, to say the least, to find them in a nest in our bunny hutch one day. That being said, it has been a really great learning experience for our family, and we have loved watching them grow. It is crazy to me just how quickly they do grow!

It will come as no surprise, then, that we love doing bunny themed projects. I talked with the girls about what we wanted to do, and we came up with the perfect bunny ears kids craft that we were all really thrilled about how they turned out.

You really don’t need a lot of materials to create these. You’ll need:

  • White cardstock 12X12
  • Pink patterned cardstock
  • Pipecleaner
  • Glue stick
  • Stapler

Begin by cutting out two ear shapes from the white cardstock. I cut one out and then used that as a stencil for the others so that they were all the same. Then I used the rest of the white to cut two strips of paper that were 2.5 inches wide and 12 inches long. After that is all cut, you’ll want to cut the middles of the ears out of the pink paper. They just need to be slightly smaller than the white, and again, be sure to cut one first and then use it as a template for the next one.

I let my girls take over from there. They used Elmer’s glue sticks to attach the centers of the ears, and then the ears to one of the headband strips. Just make sure that it is centered on the strip so that it works as a headband without a seam down the middle.

After the ears are attached, we used two pipe cleaners per headband to create whiskers. The easiest way to do it was to fold it into third, and then cut the loop on one side and then twist the other ends of all three pieces together. That becomes the part in the middle. My girls then used the same glue sticks to attach the whiskers and it worked just great. They were very liberal with the glue application which helped.

The last step is to staple the second headband strip to the first. Start by doing one side and then measuring the headband on your kid’s head so that you know how big to make it before stapling the second side.

Of course we had to take pictures of the girls in their hats, and the girls definitely wanted the baby bunnies to be involved. I couldn’t say no! Addie put one of the bunnies inside of her hat while we were sitting there and it made us all giggle. The girls have only named one of the baby bunnies, and the name is “Lizzy Hearts” which is an Addie original. I am just glad that she steered away from naming any of the other ones “Bunny Poop” like their dad!

I hope you try these out with your kids! They will love them, and you will love how cute they look wearing them, but you will also love how easy they are to put together.
