Black & White quilt tutorial

I have been meaning to post this for a long time, but you know, newborn = no time. Before Carter was born, I decided I wanted to make him a quilt since I had made one for his sisters. I love the look of black and white, so I decided a black and white baby quilt was exactly what I should make.black and white

To begin, I made a grid on a piece of paper that represented the length and width that I wanted to quilt to become, and then I created the pattern on that grid. Using the pattern, I was able to know exactly how many black and white squares I would need to create the blanket. I also used the pattern to sew the squares together, row by row until I had it all put together.

To add a little fun contrast to the quilt top, I went with a lime green fabric for the back and then chose a black and white stripe for the binding. I sewed a batting and a back onto the quilt by first pinning everything together and then sewing through all of the white squares diagonally. Last, I added the binding all the way around the quilt to finish it off.

I am in love with the way it turned out, and the baby turned out pretty great too. I took these photos when he was only about a week old and it is crazy to me to see how much he has changed even since then! He is four months old this week and time is just flying by!
