I am excited to show you how the Winter Wonderland backdrop all came together!  It was really so simple and only took about an hour to get everything ready for it.

set up for waffle party

I began with four different types of paper.  Regular white cardstock, corrugated cardboard in a silver color, silver foil paper, and a white incandescent paper.  The combination of the four papers made the backdrop have a  lot more layers and textures to it which I liked.  I then opened up the Silhouette store and found some old fashioned snowflake shapes.  I didn’t want anything fancy, just the basics.  (If it is too fancy, it will take forever to cut out.  Plus, it will be harder to have the silhouette cut out the smaller version of the snowflake, and I wanted various sizes without losing details.)

Once the snowflakes are all cut out, I pulled out some clear jewelry thread. (Fishing line works as well.  It was just what I had on hand in my craft room)  I started adding snowflakes and soon realized it would be easiest if I hung up the string and then added the snowflakes to it so that I could see the spacing between the snowflakes.  I just taped it to a board that I had and it worked like a charm.  To attach the snowflakes to the thread, I just used some clear scotch tape.

For the snowball garland, I simply got the same clear jewelry thread, a needle, and some white pom poms in two different  sizes.  Once again, I wanted to varying sizes to help with texture and create interest.  Thread the needle with the clear thread and then feed the pom poms onto the thread one at a time by pushing the needle through the middle.  It is really easy and I LOVE the look of it!  With the garland that had the smaller poms on it, I had far more poms then the one with the bigger poms.  I think it looked more even that way. (Just in case you are wondering)

Winter Backdrop

Now for the fun part.  Jesseca brought the chalkboard that she made for her Peter Pan party last year and we got to work putting the snowflakes across it.  I just used  scotch tape again to hold it in place and just made sure that the tape was on the back of the frame so that it wouldn’t be seen.  Once the snowflakes were in place, we added some outdoor lights for a little bit of whimsy and then strung the snowball garlands over the top.  I love the way it all came together!  It was the perfect backdrop.  Now I can’t wait to use this set up in my house until winter is over.  If I ever get it up, I will have to share it with you.
